Two children struck gold – sort of – earlier this week when they
discovered three wristwatches
worth more than $7,500.
The kids' parents gave the trio of 18-carat gold watches to Blooming
Grove police, who now
|need help in finding the owner and the thief who pilfered the valuables,
Detective Sgt. John
Heppes said. Authorities said the watches were found in a place and manner
suggesting the thief
stashed them to come back later and retrieve them.
Here’s the description of the watches:
- Juvenia Quartz gold watch has diamond chips around a black face. The
face has no numbers
on it but may contain rubies. Numbers on the back of the watch are
11148/18K/750/1320597.
- Favre-Leuba, 18-carat gold, has a 1907 $10 Liberty Head Gold Piece over
the face attached
by a hinge. The face has Roman numerals on it. The band appears to be
alligator skin. "DeBeer
Paris" is engraved on the inside of the band. Numbers on the back are
710047/26.
- Piaget 18-carat gold watch with a black face sans numbers. This also
has an alligator skin
band. The numbers on the back of the watch are 8673/430270.
Each watch appears to have been worked on by a jeweler in 2002, 1983
and 1999,
respectively, Heppes said.
Anyone with information about the watches' owner, or owners, is asked
to call the police at
496-9161. All calls will be kept confidential.
