Teen driver remains in critical condition

January 22, 2007

Blooming Grove — A Washingtonville
High School senior who suffered head
trauma when his car crashed into a tree
on Friday remained in critical condition
at Westchester Medical Center as of this
morning, Blooming Grove police said.

Police say Andrew Corbacio was heading
home from school about 2:30 p.m. when
he lost control on a curve on Route 208
and drove off the right side of the road.
The crash took place just south of the
Woodcock Mountain Road intersection.

The 17-year-old Blooming Grove boy was
conscious but in shock inside his 1995
Pontiac Grand Prix when emergency
workers reached him, police Sgt. Matt
Kelly said. He was flown by helicopter to
the Valhalla hospital.

Police believe speeding was a factor in the
crash. Corbacio had no passengers in his
car. Police were unsure if he had been
wearing a seat belt.
