So, I got to the movie set at 9 a.m. and was totally surprised to see
women. No teenagers,
women. Women with toddlers. Women with babies. Did I say women?
Most of them came in pairs and about every 20 minutes, when new faces
arrived, they
asked, “Has George come out yet?” They were all nicely dressed and from
what I saw,
most had their faces on. After all, it is George Clooney.
Some took pictures of the crew, some tried to get better places to stand
by telling the
crew they were friends with homeowner Maria Caponero. Some flirted with
the crew,
and the crew, seasoned professionals, took it in stride.
And they gossipped. Women, including myself, are professional gossippers.
They spoke
about where he went to dinner the other night and who saw him out at a
Karaoke night
and they joked about which one of them Clooney was going to propose to.
Whether what
they said was true or not, it definitely helped pass the time. And I
enjoyed listening to it. I
even found out a few things my own research didn’t dig up.
And then Channel 12 showed up. Ah, a day late and a story short. They
showed up
thinking they were just gonna walk up to Clooney, shove a microphone in
his face and
chat it up. Sure. So, they not only completely disregard the request to
leave him alone,
(guys, you’re Channel 12, not “Access Hollywood”), they squander their one
chance for a
quote by asking him how long he’ll be here. HELLO! Didn’t you read the
paper today?!
To make things fair, a member of the crew who had seen me there the day
before slapped
me on the back and said “Go, get in there!” If it wasn’t for you, I’d be
quoteless, and
quite possibly jobless.
I have a few other people to thank for giving us the heads up on the
story, but I’ll never
give up my “Deep Throats.” You know who you are.
When Clooney came out, though, it was every woman for herself and these
ladies gave
me a run for my money. I got shoved and pushed, but got the chance to fire
off three
questions before I ran for the back of the pack. A little boy was scared
by the commotion
and began crying. Clooney heard him and asked him if he was OK before he
left for
lunch.
During my downtime, some of the crew heard me complaining that I missed
lunch the
previous day and took pity on me, directing me to go to craft service area
for some
munchies and hot coffee. My stomach thanks you.
When Clooney came back, it was another semi-controlled free-for-all. This
time, a
woman was holding an infant in her arms and Clooney had to help her keep
her balance.
Ok, I’m gonna say it. This is really not the place for kids, but, what’s a
fan/mom to do, I
guess?
The fans were definitely excited, but they did listen to the crew’s
instructions. When I left
at 2 p.m., everyone was calm, but fresh-faced fans were arriving.
Mr. Clooney, I think tomorrow you may need another body guard.
