Blooming Grove Careening SUV Strikes Sedan, Killing Woman |
|
A 48-year-old
Washingtonville woman was killed in an accident yesterday morning in front
of Round Hill Elementary School on Route 208, police said. The accident occurred a little after 9 when a Dodge SUV, being driven by Elizabeth Quinones, 35, of Washingtonville, went off the highway's northbound lane, hit a telephone pole, swerved back into the southbound lane and collided head-on with a Nissan sedan. The driver of the sedan, Elaine Tantalemon died on impact, said Blooming Grove police Detective Sgt. John Heppes. The woman's sister, Linda Lavorgna, 52, who was in the passenger seat, was flown to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, where she was treated for minor injuries and released. Quinones was taken to the Arden Hill campus of Orange Regional Medical Center in Goshen with minor injuries and later released. An initial examination indicated that Quinones may have fallen asleep at the wheel, Heppes said. No charges have been filed. Maureen Nandini Mitra |
