A 37 year old Blooming Grove resident and her children ages 6
and 10 were rushed to Arden Hill Hospital after a family
member was unable to wake them. Hospital officials notified
Blooming Grove Police after discovering that the family was
suffering from an overdose of a prescription drug. Upon receiving
this information, Sergeant John Heppes and Sergeant Walter Graziano
spearheaded an investigation to determine if the children's
mother was responsible for intentionally giving the children
the drug. On July 25, after an exhaustive four day investigation
the mother was charged with felony assault and remanded to the
Orange County Jail after it was determined that she had given the
drug to her children. In December of the same year, a grand jury
found sufficient evidence to return an indictment.
After pleading guilty to endangering the welfare of a child, the mother
was sentenced to a term of imprisonment and placed on five years
probation.
