In November 1997, a Chester resident reported to
Blooming Grove Police disturbing news she had heard
from her teenage daughter. Her daughter had told her that the
night before, a group of friends had gotten together in a
field off of Woodcock Mountain Road and two of the boys
in the group had a bomb that they were going to detonate
against a tree. The boys decided against it upon the urging
of the group. After receiving this information a bomb dog
and his handler were dispatched to the scene in an attempt
to find the bomb. After failing to locate anything,
information was developed by Sgt. Walter Graziano
which lead to the arrest two days later of a seventeen year old
Blooming Grove resident and the confiscation of the homemade
device from the young man's car, a six inch pipe bomb with
threaded end caps complete with gun powder
and an M‑80 used as a detonating device.
The bomb was turned over to the State Police bomb unit
for disposal. The defendant plead guilty to possession
of an incendiary device and was sentenced.
