Two former volunteer firefighters caught on camera setting a condominium
building on fire
were sentenced to prison time yesterday in Orange County Court.
Brian Fitzgerald, 20, and James Nicoliello, 23, former members of the
South Blooming Grove Volunteer Fire Department, were each sentenced to
four years in state prison
for the condo fire set on March 13 and another two to eight years behind
bars for setting a
fire at a construction site the same night. The sentences will run
concurrently.
They will also have to pay $12,650 in restitution.
The pair pleaded guilty in July to attempted second-degree arson and
third-degree arson, both felonies.
Fitzgerald and Nicoliello admitted to setting fire to a home under
construction in Blooming Grove first.
When that fire blew itself out, the pair moved to the Rolling Hill
Condominium Complex and tried again.
A fire was ignited in the laundry room of a 34-unit occupied apartment
building. No injuries were reported in either fire.
