Man charged with mailbox bombings
A 19-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a string of mailbox bombings
carried out last week near the Mountain Lodge Park.
Charles Haughey, of Blooming Grove, turned himself in to police just before 7 p.m. Friday.
He agreed to surrender following an investigation into the Aug. 29 incident, police said.
Detective Brett Weeden of the Blooming Grove Police Department said witnesses interviewed by police identified
Haughey as the lone bomber.
Weeden said Haughey used M-80 type explosives to blow up a group of 16 mailboxes.
The mailboxes were destroyed, and residents have had to pick up their mail at the post office.
Haughey was charged with numerous counts of first-degree criminal mischief, a felony.
He was arraigned Friday night before Town Justice James Kenealy and was being held in Orange County Jail
in lieu of $25,000 bail, pending an Oct. 2. court appearance
